We Happy Few

In 2009, our play was We Happy Few by Imogen Stubbs

We Happy Few is a salute to the real-life Osiris Players, who travelled Britain in their battered Rolls-Royce bringing Shakespeare to the masses during the dark days of the Second World War.. Under the direction of the forceful Nancy Hewins, they operated from the 1930s to the early 1960s, although Stubbs' fictional version turns their efforts into a purely war-time enterprise. We Happy Few presents the Second World War as a period when women not only had the opportunity to stage a takeover, but, with the menfolk away, could consider it their patriotic duty to do so.

We raised £1,400 for the local charity CALM (Childrens Cancer and Leukaemia Movement). A local group who provide support for all affected local families, with holiday caravans, social events, trips, grants, access to a dedicated social worker and family support worker, and general welfare support.

We Happy Few was on for four nights only - Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st November at Holy Cross Church, Chiseldon.
